The grapes for this legendary wine come from the Tondonia vineyard, located in a shell-shaped bend of the Ebro river. This terroir of limestone and clay gives the wine its backbone. Where most 'modern' Riojas are bottled after only 1 or 2 years, this Reserva has received royal treatment.
The wine matures for 6 years in the winery's own, handmade American oak barrels. During this time, the wine is manually racked twice a year to clarify it and allow it to breathe. The result is not a bomb of fresh fruit, but a refined masterpiece with 'tertiary' aromas: think of fireplace, cigar box, dried cherries, and cloves. Despite its age, the acidity is still vibrant, ensuring a phenomenal length.
The wine is like a fine dish in itself, but feel free to pair it with lamb, truffle dishes, aged Manchego cheese, or Iberico ham.
