The Kranz Kalmit Riesling GG 2016 is an impressive dry Riesling from Weingut Kranz and belongs to Germany's highest quality category: Grosses Gewächs (GG), known as Grand Cru in France.
This top wine comes from the famous Kalmit vineyard in Ilbesheim, located on the sun-drenched southern slopes of the Kleine Kalmit in the Pfalz region.
The vineyards are situated on exceptionally calcareous soils of limestone, marl, loess, and land snail limestone. This subsoil provides pronounced minerality, finesse, and impressive aging potential. After a long maturation on the fine lees, the wine develops additional depth and a creamy texture, without losing its characteristic freshness.
In the glass, this Riesling displays aromas of ripe peach, honey, citrus, and flint. The taste is powerful and refined, with vibrant acidity, ample structure, and a long, mineral-rich finish.
2016 saw a challenging spring with much rain, but an excellent late summer ensured healthy grapes and very balanced wines, a year where precision and balance were key. Perfect if you are looking for balance, subtlety, and gastronomic versatility.
This gastronomic Riesling is an excellent accompaniment to grilled fish, crustaceans and shellfish, sushi, and refined Asian dishes. Also delicious with poultry in creamy sauces.
