Alsace in top form.
Are you looking for a characterful Alsace Riesling that is fresh, dry, and gastronomically versatile? This wine from Fernand Engel perfectly demonstrates just how modern and versatile Alsace wine is today.
Alsace is known for its rich terroir, the king grape Riesling, and its pioneering role in organic viticulture. Where the region was formerly known primarily for lightly sweet
styles, more and more producers are opting for a completely dry Riesling that lets the origin and grape speak for themselves.
Fernand Engel belongs to this new generation of winemakers and produces wines that effortlessly compete with the best estates from the Haut-Rhin.
With vineyards on south- and east-facing slopes, calcareous soils, and a combination of young and old vines, this winery can produce refined wines with sufficient concentration.
The grapes are pressed as whole bunches to preserve maximum purity. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at 18–20 °C, ensuring the fruit and freshness are optimally preserved.
Afterwards, the wine ages sur lie (on the lees) for eight months. This aging imparts extra depth, complexity, and a subtly creamy texture without the wine losing its dry, crisp character.
The result is a modern, dry Riesling with precision and finesse.
For us, the wine is a perfect accompaniment to Coq au Riesling or the local Alsatian sauerkraut.
