Weingut Kranz from the southern Pfalz region is among Germany's best. While much attention often goes to Riesling, the Kranz family shows with this 'Gutswein' that they are also true masters of Weisser Burgunder. This German white wine feels completely at home on the sun-drenched, lime-rich soils around the village of Ilbesheim.
Boris and Kerstin Kranz, and now also their son Xaver, cultivate their plots strictly organically, ensuring the soil is teeming with life. To preserve the wine's elegant, pure character, it is cool-fermented in stainless steel tanks after a manual harvest.
Grauer Burgunder feels perfectly at home in the sunny, relatively warm Pfalz region. The grapes ripen optimally here on the lime-rich soils around the village of Ilbesheim. Boris and Kerstin Kranz cultivate their vineyards here with immense respect for nature, and that purity is immediately evident in the bottle.
To give the wine its characteristic depth and soft texture, Kranz opts for a clever combination after the manual harvest. Part of the wine ferments and matures in stainless steel tanks to preserve its juicy freshness, while a small portion ages in old wooden barrels.
Beautiful balance between fresh and riper fruit AND a very slight residual sweetness, making it very suitable for a slightly spicy dish.
Delicious with tuna tartare with chili oil, aubergine with tahini dressing, or a charcuterie/cheese board with something mildly spicy.
