The Kranz Kirchberg Riesling GG 2015 is an impressive dry Riesling from Weingut Kranz, originating from the historic Kirchberg vineyard in Ilbesheim in the Pfalz. This special location is situated on the sheltered south-southwest slopes of the Kalmit and is known for its exceptionally chalky soils of Tertiary land snail limestone, marl, and loess.
The grapes are hand-selected, and after gentle pressing, spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks. This ensures a pure expression of the terroir, with maximum precision and tension. The wine then matures on the fine lees, which adds extra complexity and structure.
The 2015 vintage is considered one of the best German wine years of the past decade. Thanks to a warm and relatively dry growing season, perfectly ripe grapes with great concentration and extract could be harvested. The limestone and loess soils ensure that the wine, despite its rich style, retains its characteristic freshness and precision.
This Riesling displays aromas of ripe peach, apricot, and juicy citrus, complemented by notes of chalk and flint. The taste is full and powerful, with a soft yet lively acidity, subtle minerality, and a long, elegant finish.
An excellent accompaniment to shellfish, grilled fish, and refined Asian dishes. Furthermore, this Grosses Gewächs possesses impressive aging potential.
